I really wanted to love this chess set because it does look good on the board. First impression was solid, and I thought it would feel nicer once I started playing with it.
But the weighting is kind of confusing?? Some of the pawns feel really light, then a few of the bigger pieces feel oddly heavy, so the whole set just feels uneven. When I’m playing a faster game, the balance is noticeable, and a couple pieces almost feel hollow in my hand.

For the price, I expected the pieces to feel more consistent and a bit more premium. It’s not terrible or unusable, but it’s not something I’d buy again

Overall, I thought the listing was accurate and matched the description well. The only thing I noticed was that the color looked a little different in person than I expected.

These chess pieces feel sooo much nicer than I expected. The wood has a great weight and finish to it, and they just feel solid in your hand. Super happy with them.

I don’t remember every single back-and-forth, but I do remember feeling like I was waiting a long time and not getting much in the way of clear answers. The problem was supposed to be resolved, but from what I can tell, it never really felt properly sorted out

The board looked really nice online, but when mine arrived it had some rough edges and a slight warp. For the price, I expected better quality. It’s not awful, but definitely disappointing. I also had to chase them to get a proper response, which made the whole thing more frustrating than it needed to be.

Support did reply, but it took a few days. It wasn’t a huge deal, just that part felt kind of slow.

To be fair, the site does get the job done, and I was able to find most of what I needed. That said, it feels a little dated and can be slow at times. The filters weren’t super helpful either, so I ended up clicking around more than I expected. Checkout was easy enough though, so it wasn’t a bad experience overall, just not the smoothest...

i liked a lot of the designs on house of staunton, especially the wood chess sets. some of the pieces have that classic look i’m into, and the photos gave me a good idea of what i’d be getting.
the website itself just feels a bit old and crowded. it’s not bad or anything, but browsing could be smoother, and i wish the product pages looked cleaner and more modern. overall, decent experience, just feels like the site could use a refresh.

I’m frustrated. I’m still waiting for help with my replacement, and it feels like support just completely ignored me. I was hoping this would be handled quickly, but the whole experience has been really disappointing

But after just a few months, I’ve started noticing small chips on some of the pieces. It’s not a disaster or anything, but for the price, I expected it to hold up better. I’m always a little nervous about spending more and then feeling like I got fooled by the branding, and this kind of gave me that feeling a bit. Nice set overall, just not as durable as I hoped...

I ordered from houseofstaunton.com thinking the shipping would be fairly quick, or at least straightforward, but it ended up taking a lot longer than I expected.
The tracking barely updated for days, so I kept checking it over and over because I had no idea what was actually happening with my order. That part was frustrating.

The item did finally arrive, and it was okay once it got here, but the whole shipping experience left a bad taste. I wouldn’t say it was the worst order I’ve ever had, but it definitely made me feel disappointed and a lot less excited to buy from them again...

I’m still waiting for my refund to come through. It’s been a while, and I haven’t seen the money back in my account yet.
